One of my favourite phrases and coaching tips, if you could call it that, is that it may be time to "get over yourself". Without supporting context it sounds rather bald but in the context of some coaching conversations, it's anything but. As individuals concerned with things or mulling over options, it is easy to analyse things to the point of paralysis then become completely stuck, caught in the rip tide of what-ifs and maybes. At some point, we have to move on and make a decision, any decision, to get going again. To help us, we need to consider the barriers in our way – ours or others' expectations, doubts, fears, or imagined repercussions etc – and get over them and in doing so, get over ourself.
